Bayside Great Danes

Striving for Balance, Beauty and Brains

About Us

In the early 1980’s I, Leslie Kettring, began to show Great Danes. My goal was to owner handle my own dogs. Unfortunately, I had no skills in handling. In fact, I had to promise Terry Goldman that I would never handle my own dogs again. I was that bad. Despite being a terrible handler, I did put points on a few of my dogs. It goes without saying that these were exceptional Danes.

Although BISS CH. Stockdale’s Designing Woman (Georgia) was not my first Great Dane. She was my first “great” Great Dane. She was bred by Carleen and Larry Radanovich of Stockdale’s Kennel. She was handled as a special by Jinny Rojas. Jinny has been our handler ever since. I learned a lot about breeding Great Danes from my first unsuccessful attempts at trying to reproduce another “Georgia”. The first and only breeding of the princess was not successful. It produced out of 9 puppies, no champions and only one who was pointed, Bayside’s Spirit of the Keys. The two lessons learned were do not breed for pieces (breed to improve overall quality) and some lines do not produce when bred together.

Bayside’s Spirit of the Keys was a puppy who was returned or better still rescued. She was the bane of my neighbor’s existence because she would bark continuously if crated. After having the police and animal control show up at the house, I knew that I had to relocate her and try to place her. Jan Brungard offered to let me keep her at her home and thus began the Creekside/Bayside partnership. Spirit was not a great dog, but she was a “show dog”. Jan was a good handler and handled her to all her single points. Spirit was bred two times, one to Chimo producing Ch. Bayside-Creekside Elmer Gantry and once to Brigadoon, producing Ch. Creekside-Bayside’s Edwina the Frigid. Jan had the ability to handle, and she was great at whelping litters. I had a better than average working knowledge of pedigrees as well as a reasonably good eye. We collaborated and the collaboration produced many excellent Great Danes as well as BISS Ch Creekside Bayside’s Just Tina. The collaboration continued until 2005 when our goals and vision were no longer compatible.

BISS Ch Creekside-Bayside’s Just Tina was remarkable. She was one of two puppies. Where I have a reasonably good eye for a puppy, Gary Kettring, my Husband, has an exceptional eye. His directions to me were, “Do not sell this Puppy”. I listened to him and the rest is history. Jan finished Tina with 4 majors out of the puppy class. She was Best of Breed at Westminster, Top 20 two years in a row, Best of Opposite Sex 2005 Eukanuba, Best Brood Bitch and produced 14 US Champions, 1 Indian Champion out of 19 puppies. Some of her notable get and her grand, and great grandchildren are:
